Renee´, Ambassador

Renee´ has always been active and enjoys various forms of exercise. She began her journey into authentic yoga  18 months ago, with the gracious staff at House of Yoga.

Together Durga Devi and Shiva Das are co-directors of House of Yoga in Berkley, MI. Over the past 14 years they have led numerous teacher training and Yoga Lifestyle programs (LIFE OS). Both E-RYTs, Experienced Yoga Teachers registered with Yoga Alliance, each with over 5000 hours of teaching experience. In 2011, they received blessings from Mark Whitwell as certified Heart of Yoga Teachers, to transmit the yoga teachings of Krishnamacharya. Their yoga philosophy is based on Patanjali’s 8 limbs of Yoga. It is in this foundational light, that all their teachings are based. They believe in the healing of mantra and sound and have hosted kirtans with Krishna Das, Bhagavan Das and Girish and others. In 2010 they founded the kirtan group “Vishnu Blue” as a vehicle to share mantra, kirtan and sacred sound. In June 2015 they were blessed by Bhagavan Das to share this energetic path and were given their spiritual names on the path of Bhakti Yoga.

Durga Devi was introduced to yoga through chanting and meditation as a teenager, through the Siddha Yoga lineage (Swami Baba Muktanada and Gurumayi Chidvilasananda.)

In her late 30's, she was introduced to asana practice and fell in love with the Ashtanga method. After completing a teacher training in 2003, Durga Devi completed a 300 hr training in Jivamukti Yoga in 2005 with David Life and Sharon Gannon and received their blessings as a certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher.

Durga Devi's style of teaching has a spiritual foundation with a playful approach to challenging the body and the mind in order to break out of patterns and let go of limiting beliefs so that we may BE our true Self, which is blissful and luminous.

Her teaching is influenced from life experience and from beloved teacher, Mark Whitwell. Durga Devi's love of mantra and Bhakti Yoga is sustained through practice and studies with Bhagavan Das, from whom she received her spiritual name.

In 2011 Deb was drawn more deeply to yoga. She felt the connection of what yoga was and how much it meant to her to continue practicing. When she learned to let go of the mind stuff, she began to realize that yoga helped her heal, cleared her mind, and she began to connect with a higher power. In 2012, she finished her first 200 Hour Yoga Certification as well as her Personal Training Certification. Five years later, Deb decided to re-take Yoga Teacher Training training at House of Yoga. She has learned much more about Yoga's lineage and the spiritual connection through Durga Devi and Shiva Das and is honored to teach to the community at House of Yoga.

Deb has been married to Michael since 1994 and together they have two children.
